What INCI means
INCI stands for International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients. It is a naming system used to identify cosmetic ingredients. In the United States, ingredient labels must also follow applicable FDA labeling rules.
Ingredients & Care
This page explains how we share ingredient information at Kaitlany: what each soap starts from, where a product’s ingredient information will appear, and how to read a cosmetic ingredient list.
We don’t publish a finished product’s ingredient list until we’ve checked it against the materials actually used.
Our soap bases
We make our soaps with prepared glycerin soap bases, using the melt-and-pour method: the base arrives already made, and we melt it, add the elements of each design, and pour it into a mold.
The soap itself, produced by the base manufacturer. Its ingredients come from the manufacturer’s documentation.
The elements chosen for a design, such as fragrance or color. They change from one design to another.
The combination of base and additions used in one specific product. Its ingredient list is prepared for that product.
That is why the ingredient list of a base is not, on its own, the complete list of a finished soap.
Ingredients by product
Designs can use different bases, fragrances, and colors, so the ingredients of one soap may differ from those of another.
As products become available, their reviewed ingredient information will be provided on their individual product pages.
Reading a label
INCI stands for International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients. It is a naming system used to identify cosmetic ingredients. In the United States, ingredient labels must also follow applicable FDA labeling rules.
On U.S. cosmetic labels, ingredients are listed from the most to the least predominant. Ingredients present at 1% or less may follow in any order, and color additives may be listed at the end.
Many INCI names are technical or based on Latin, so a familiar ingredient can appear under a name that looks unfamiliar.
A fragrance may be listed as “Fragrance” without identifying every component of the blend. If you need to avoid particular fragrance ingredients, that term alone may not provide enough information.
General information about ingredient labels. It is not an ingredient declaration for any Kaitlany product, and it is not medical or legal advice.
Soap care
We want our storage and care guidance to reflect how our finished soaps actually behave, including how they respond to heat, humidity, and their final packaging.
Once that guidance has been confirmed, we’ll add it to this section.
Questions
Ingredient details for each soap will be on its product page.
